Description

For some reason my folks tucked this Fall 1950 L.L. Bean catalog away, and we recently unearthed it.  It's in decent shape for its age, no obnoxious odors and no missing or cut pages.  The centerfold pages are loose from the staples, and the page behind those was printed a bit off so the lefthand side is short and the fold isn't in the middle of the text - if that makes sense.  Basically the two center pages, and a couple of others, had a printing problem, but you can figure out what the descriptions say anyway. The catalog cover is in color, both sides: flying ducks on the front, socks and a blanket on the back (along with b&w cartridge case), and inside you have clothing at the front and a rather blinding Hudson's Bay blanket at the back.  The rest is in black and white.  96 pages full of everything you need for your outdoor hiking, camping, hunting, whatever -  and the prices!  Oh wow!  Bean's Winter Play Shoe For Children, bottoms from lightweight red rubber and tops "made from pieces of Tan Elk leather too small for our Maine Hunting Shoe," only $5.95 for the 8", $6.95 for the 10"...a Waterproof Food Bag "for keeping lunch dry and clean.  May also be used for game bag for bird and deer liver," 26 cents postpaid if your total order amounts to $1....playing cards with duck or deer design, 72 cents for a deck...Bean's Lightweight Trout Net, $1.85.  Ah, the olden days!  What a stocking stuffer for your hunter or fisherman! There's a 4-page index and a page with a photo of Leon L. Bean himself, with the note that he founded the company in 1912 and had run it continuously.  Store hours are also listed, along with the notation that merchandise could only be purchased by mail or at their Factory Salesroom in Freeport, Maine.  Thanks for looking!
